•the invitation of a foreign scholar, usually from central or eastern Europe, to visit the UK;

•the extension of a visit by a foreign scholar to the UK;

•the costs of a workshop or symposium, usually in the UK but possibly abroad.

Grants may be made for individual or collaborative projects.

Application to the fund must be made by British scholars, or scholars from other European countries, based in the UK.

Applicants and recipients must be of postdoctoral status. Postgraduate students may not apply.

Awards are normally tenable for up to 12 months and do not generally exceed £1,000. An application to this fund may be combined with an application for a small research grant for other costs, up to a total of £7,500.
