BBSRC Public Engagement Training Course

Annalisa Jones13/11/201212/11/2012 Events

A new date has been added for the BBSRC public engagement training. It is designed for those interested in doing public engagement but aren’t sure where to start, and can help researchers exploring science which raises challenging issues or controversy.

This course is designed to support BBSRC-funded researchers to carry out effective public engagement that reflects upon thesocial and ethical perspectives of your work. You will learn about what public engagement is and why it is important, as well as begin to develop some of the skills required to carry out public engagement.

The course is an interactive day, combining information provision with activities and discussion and will be delivered by BBSRC staff with external facilitators and tutors who will provide additional perspectives and specialist input.

BBSRC believes that public engagement with research is important and can have benefits for both the public and researchers. A two-way process where researchers and those they are engaging with can share and take on board one another’s hopes and concerns can be particularly valuable. By providing training, BBSRC hopes that more of its researchers will have the skills and confidence to take their research out into the wider world.

This course will take place in London on 11 December 2012. Anyone supported by BBSRC, working on a BBSRC grant or based at a BBSRC-funded institute can attend, free of charge.

Places are limited so for more information, to register your interest in this course, or for dates in 2013 (to be confirmed), please go to: www.bbsrc.ac.uk/petraining.
