TSB To Explore “Internet of Things”

The Technology Strategy Board has recently set up a sub-group to act as an information hub for its “Internet of Things” Knowledge Transfer networks. This field is relevant to a range of strategic research priorities led by TSB and other funders, including healthy ageing and the digital economy. The hub will provide information on forthcoming calls as well as the chance to connect with potential partners:

TSB KTN The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (or IoT) describes the revolution already under way that is seeing a growing number of internet-enabled devices that can network and communicate with each other and with other web-enabled gadgets.

Various other terms have been used with the broadly similar meaning in other contexts, such as Pervasive Internet, Connected Environments, Smart Places, Smart Cities, Connected Cars, Ubiquitous Computing, Everyware, Connected World, Physical Internet, Smart Homes, Smart Meters, Wireless Sensor Networks, Ambient Intelligence, M2M, Web of Things, etc

Things (e.g. objects, environments, vehicles and clothing) will have more and more information associated with them and may have the ability to sense, communicate, network and produce new information, becoming an integral part of the Internet.

A widespread Internet of Things has the potential to transform how we live in our cities, how we move, how we develop sustainably, how we age, and more.
