The European Commission has now published the final version of their Practical Guide to EU Funding which provides information on how to support research by combining FP7, Competitiveness and Innovation, and Structural funds. Often funding from different sources can be combined to support different aspects of one project, but the complexity of the different EU funding streams can put people off applying to more than one. The guide is (relatively) easy to read and shows which kinds of activities are eligible for different funding sources.

A six-point checklist has been produced to help researchers identify the most relevant funding source for their needs. The questions asked in this checklist cover the eligibility of the organisation or company, the eligibility of the planned activity, the timeframe for the project, the type of financial support needed, the identity of any other partners involved and the possibility to apply for funding in a specific location. These results can then be applied to the Scorecard to see which source or sources of funding are the most relevant for that particular organisation.
