The UK’s EU Cultural Contact Point has recently reported the EU proposals for the next programme supporting cultural activities: Creative Europe. It is proposed that this new programme will combine the existing Culture and Media programmes, both of which run to 2013:
The next EU programme supporting culture has been proposed to be part of a wider ‘Creative Europe’ programme which also contains the next incarnation of the Media programme, as well as a Financial Guarantee fund for cultural and creative industries, all addressing the EU2020 strategy for ‘smart, sustainable and inclusive growth’, looking at job creation and competitivity.
Creative Europe will, if adopted, run from 2014-2020.
Wearemore.eu, a Europe-wide arts advocacy campaign set up by Culture Action Europe, has responded to this news by welcoming the proposal and calling on the EC to carefully assess the different needs of the actors and stakeholders within the cultural and creative sector in Europe.
