AHRC/Radio 3 New Generation Thinkers 2012

David Young15/11/2011 Funding Opportunities

Are you a new academic in the arts and humanities keen to publicise your research in the media?

The AHRC and BBC Radio 3 have announced a new round of their very popular New Generation Thinkers programme for 2012. Last year’s scheme had over 1,000 applicants, from which 10 were selected (pictured right) to develop their research in programmes on Radio 3.

This year’s scheme will add The Review Show on BBC 2 and the BBC Scotland Arts TV team who will be looking for research which can be made into good arts TV. This time around anyone who applied last year can apply again, but the AHRC are also particularly looking for applications in the history and philosophy of science. 60 applicants will be short-listed to attend day-long workshops in March 2012 with BBC Radio 3 producers and contributors. From this group a final 10 will be chosen to be next year’s New Generation Thinkers.

To be eligible for this scheme, you must be either: 1) over 18 and undertaking an arts or humanities postgraduate or postdoctoral research project or working as a postgraduate or postdoctoral member of an arts or humanities research project; or 2) within eight years of the award of your PhD; or 3) within six years of your first academic appointment. The application form is a straightforward online form (not Je-S!) with 2 questions designed to demonstrate your ability to reach a wide audience. Applications must be submitted by 7th December 2011.

If you are thinking of applying for this, please contact us and we’ll put you in touch with the relevant research leads in the faculty of Art, Architecture and Design and Media, Humanities and Technology who are coordinating submissions this year.
