Call for Individual Fellowships under Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions opens today

Individual Fellowships from the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) will award experienced scientists (postdocs) who want to strengthen their career through mobility. The MCSA offer funding schemes for moving and working at a host institution within or outside Europe. Candidates of any nationality can participate.

Only the country of the institution where the candidate will work is determinant. In that context, and following recent political developments, please note that Switzerland is currently considered as a Third Country and Swiss institutions cannot host MSCA fellowships.

For questions, please contact Research & Enterprise. The 2014 budget for Individual Fellowships under MSCA is €240.5 millions.

The deadline is 11 September 2014.

Digital Curation Centre: Digital Curation Webinars

The DCC runs a series of free, online training sessions covering a wide range of digital curation-related topics. These brief sessions will last for one hour and will provide participants with an introduction to some of the current issues, some examples of emerging good practice, and an overview of tools and approaches.

The webinars will run on the second Thursday of each month. The sessions will be run using Google+ Hangouts but participants do not need to have a Google account to take part. Please register for each session before 11:00 on the day of the session so that we can provide you with links to the slides following the session.

About the session:

DMPonline is the DCC’s web-based tool to help researchers write Data Management Plans. They’ve recently released a new version of the tool which offers a lot of flexibility in terms of how institutions can customise it. You can create your own template to provide questions and guidance that researchers should respond to, add tailored guidance to help researchers answer funders questions, and provide examples and suggested answers. This webinar will demo the new version of DMPonline and profile the options available for customising the tool by showing examples from a number of early adopters.

Staff Research Development Day – Monday 16 December

UoL-logo-general-use-white-backgroundThe next University of Lincoln Research Development Day will take place on Monday 16 December in ENG207.

These sessions are open to all academics and research support staff and will concentrate on grant writing skills, networking and Horizon 2020:

1. Grant Writing Skills: the Art of a Strong Proposal – Traps, Tricks and Techniques, 9am – 11:15am

This presentation covers the art of Grantmanship and is designed for all types of grant applications covering the do’s and dont’s when preparing a proposal together with the necessary building blocks, over and above the research context, with which to construct the application.

2. The Importance of Networking and how to be effective, 11:15am – 1:45pm

With an ever increasing emphasis on multi-disciplinarity, impact, dissemination, exploitation and outreach the network structure behind a research bid is an essential component to be competitive. This workshop presents an understanding of these requirements and the basic principles behind the networking process; helping to identify key players and stakeholders as well as how to approach them.

3. Strategic Opportunities Within Horizon 2020 and How to Address them, 2:30pm – 5pm

This session will introduce Horizon 2020 from a strategic position. The session will explain changes from the FP7 programme and provide a background for insights into the substantial opportunities and requirements for a Competitive Horizon 2020 bid.

Medilink East Midlands: Horizon 2020

The planned launch of Horizon 2020 is January 2014 and there are important new developments that are included in the programme; one being the emphasis of funding specifically for SMEs and the other being a strong emphasis on Healthcare.
