Apply Now for Research Funding to Help Save Lives and Reduce Injuries: RoSPA / BNFL Scholarship – Deadline 2nd April 2012

Do you or your team have an innovative research proposal that could help improve safety and reduce accidents?

If so, apply now for funding to the RoSPA/BNFL scholarship scheme.

The scheme is financed by a bequest of £500,000 from BNFL to fund two to three scholarships per year. Its aim is to enable research into safety and accident prevention in order to produce defined, practical and influential outcomes to help save lives and reduce injuries.

Although applications for funding are invited for any projects that might meet the above objective this year RoSPA is particularly interested  in receiving proposals in the following areas:

Work safety

  • A comprehensive review of strategy in relation to the management of occupational road risk as a basis for making recommendations for action to help sustain progress made and drive the MORR agenda forward.

Road safety

  • Research to establish why such unusually large drops in road deaths occurred in 2007 to 2010 and what lessons can be drawn to help continue the downward trend over the next 5 to 10 years.

Home safety

  • Research to establish the nature and extent of home and leisure injury prevention activities in England, Wales and Scotland with a particular focus on levels of investment, programme delivery and outcomes in each Nation.

Water and leisure safety

  • Research into the effectiveness of safety & risk education programmes such as LASER.

Safety education

  •  Research, development and evaluation of new safety and risk education resources for use in schools.

In addition to conducting new research, applications for projects evaluating existing or planned safety schemes are welcome.
