New ESRC Call: Rising Powers and Independent Futures

The Economic and Social Research Council has recently announced a call for international collaborative research proposals under the “Rising Powers and Independent Futures” initiative:

Between £200K and £750K is available per project, although the ESRC expect the average size to be around £370K with a duration of between 1 and 3 years. The deadline for applications is 8th September 2011 at 4pm.

The ‘Rising Powers and Interdependent Futures’ initiative is a major investment contributing to the ESRC’s three priorities, especially Economic Performance and Sustainable Growth; and Vibrant and Fair Society. This call focuses on the implications of the Rising Powers for the rest of the world (paying attention to both developed and developing countries), and on how the rising powers’ interactions with each other and other countries are changing. Applications are expected to focus on one or more of the themes below from an interdisciplinary perspective and international comparative and/or collaborative work is welcome.

  • Causes, sustainability and competitiveness
  • Global and regional governance and the balance of power
  • Well-being and equity
