The UROS scheme for 2009 was officially opened to all UL academic staff today (18-02-09). This scheme aims to enhance the links between teaching and research in the undergraduate curriculum by providing students with the opportunity to undertake a research project. UK Research Office has suggested that the EC plans to shift the focus for the Social Sciences and Humanities theme in FP7 towards projects which address large-scale “societal challenges”. News that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has agreed to mandate open access publication for research that it has funded, bringing it in line with the other 6 councils and with RCUK’s policy statement. Guidance on open access is available on the C.E.R.D. Academic Commons website.
